Nestled on the west coast of Langkawi, an archipelago of some 100 islands in the Andaman Sea, rests Smith’s hotel of the week: Bon Ton Restaurant & Resort, a selection of eight individual timber houses that have been transported from Kedah state in Malaysia and masterfully reassembled. With themed pavilions inspired by white frangipani and lustrous black coral, these lodgings will have you captivated by their distinctly Malaysian charm.

Why this week Is there ever a bad time to look upon a stunning mountain backdrop or explore a heritage coconut plantation? Of course not. To sweeten the deal, we’re offering Smith members four nights for the price of three.

Bon Ton Restaurant & Resort, Langkawi, MalaysiaOur favourite bits Stylish stilted lodges; sunloungers perched beneath the spreading palm trees; Malay hospitality at its finest; spice-rack splashes of colour: these are a few of our favourite things. The crisp bed sheets aren’t half bad, either.

Mr & Mrs Smith say ‘Framed by rainforest-clad hills and the sparkling Andaman Sea, the setting proves as delicious as our drinks, as we savour white-sand-flanked surroundings and watch the sun set over bird-flocked lily ponds. Narelle, the owner, has restored these antique villas beautifully. From White Frangipani to Black Coral, the themed pavilions provide elegant, historic lodging that’s as far removed from a chain-hotel room as is possible.’ Read the full anonymous review of Bon Ton Restaurant & Resort, Langkawi.

You fine folks say ‘The beautiful Malay-style houses make this feel like a more authentic holiday experience than some resorts. Although not on the beach, it is still in a beautiful spot and very peaceful. We hired a car so we could easily travel to any of the beaches around the island. The staff were very friendly and genuine and most helpful.’ (Chrissy, GoldSmith, stayed on 28 July 2012.) Read more Guestbook reviews for Bon Ton Resort.
